Included stories for only some of the paintings.
"The Meanwhile Button"
While on spectacular road trips, one's
mind finds itself back home hashing
over petty or catastrophic problems.
Pressing the "meanwhile button"
brings one back to enjoy the present.
Some thinks he looks like Peter Lorie
or a carney.

"Enviable Lips"
It seems no matter how gorgeous
a person might be, they often feel
afflicted by a flaw that most likely
only they can see.

"The Arsonist"
This began as tango dancers but there were
a lot of forest fires going on while painting this.
So the background changed, as did the story.
The little match earring might indicate that
she is the arsonist and perhpas he doesn't
know she is...or perhaps he does?

"Yellow Car"
Wanted to capture that "here but not here"
expression - that "I'm fiddling with something
to help me think" expression or ......
Unfortunately can't get the colors true on
the computer. It looks v. spooky in firelight.

"Armchair Activist"
Inspired by a conversation about the
seeming futility of activism in our current
times. (This was way before 2016.)
Some say the guys in red are soldiers
and others say bishops or simply the "chaos
creators". Several have said the guy at the
bottom in the middle looks like Peter Sellers
in The Pink Panther series.

Beyond Our Control"
During election time one feels as though
they have as much power as a flyswatter
would provide against falling bombs.
Others see a serious mother with a spatula -
another take is that it is an aquarium fish net
and the bombs are tropical fish.
Yet another saw a jazz singer with a mircrophone.

"Formidable"
The chain mail head covering suggests it is about
protection. Or perhaps a certain snooty look
from the world of high fashion?

"Neighbor?"
Began with a friend's story about a neighbor
popping up and shooting their neighbor
(who had recently taken up the bagpipe)
in his hand and through his bagpipe.
Others have seen a baboon or Shogun.

"Contemplating Tonto"
Tonto was loyal. It's an attempt to capture the
expression of someone who realizes
it has been an illusion.

"Untitled" or "WTF?"
It is sort of that whip around someone does when
they have been told something shocking. The plastic
key chain baby has a deeper story.

"Refugee"
Wanted to paint something powerful and personal.
The artist worked for UNICEF in camps on the Cambodian
(refugees escaping Pol Pot) and Afghan (refugees
escaping the Russians - before the Taliban took hold)
borders so the plight of refugees everywhere feels both viceral
and unforgettable.
