Expressionistic, sophisticatedly whimsical, narrative art
that aims to elicit an emotion and explore a concept in fearless colors.
April is from the northwest and basically self taught.
What drives her art is curiosity.
Questions drive the concepts or stories
and questions run through her mind throughout the process.
There is ambiguity because
there are seldom any right answers
or only one possible scenario.
She wants viewers to create their own stories
and allow them to change over time,
as they do.
The humor/absurdity, vibrant colors and implied motion
are simply a reflection of how she views life.
She draws from anything she
sees, hears, reads, wonders or agonizes about.
She wants her work to
grab the eye in a matter of seconds
but also reward gazing with surprises over the long haul.
So there's a lot of free flowing, "let the force be with you" areas
juxtaposed with precise little images within the whole.
Each satisfies a separate hunger.
Her earliest work was featured on Oregon Art Beat in 2007..it has evolved dramatically.
